Show Notes

About Gino Wickman:
Gino Wickman took an unconventional path to reach the success he’s earned today. He graduated high school with a solid 2.3 GPA, and although all his friends were going off to college, he couldn’t wait to leave academia. He never desired to go to college but was firmly driven to work and make money.

His first job out of high school was in a machine shop. He saved his money, tried his hands in a few other business areas, and eventually began a family business at 24 with his father and another partner. By 25, he had worked his way up the ladder and completely seized the reigns of the company, which was in need of a turnaround. He knew he could save it, and guided by his two mentors, he completed the overhaul in about three years, and after seven years, he and his partners sold.

During his time running the family business, he also got involved in the Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO) and the Strategic Coach Program. He gathered an incredible wealth of knowledge and discovered he had a gift and true knack for helping other entrepreneurs. At the age of 31, he took his leap and, after five years, established the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) and wrote several books on the topic. Now EOS is an organization of over 500 people, helping over 120,000 companies around the world. Although he sold the company about three years ago, he is still very much involved and is also focusing on several other passion projects, including Entrepreneurial Leap, which guides any new entrepreneur to take a strong leap and run their business successfully.

Takeaways
Gino Wickman shares that success starts with looking in and confirming if you have what it takes. He identifies six essential traits of an entrepreneur. These attributes include being a visionary, passionate, problem solver, driven, risk-taker, and responsible.

Finding inspiration is another vital step. The Entrepreneurial Leap includes taking a glimpse into the main factors that can help you determine what kind of business to start, finding motivation from others’ success stories, and picturing a dream scenario as well as a nightmare scenario. Overall, seeing the big picture, detailing your vision, and sharing your vision with the world is vital for victory.

Gino’s tips are not just a shot in the dark—they’re verified by others and himself with over 30 years of experience seeing and doing these tasks in the real world. Among his leading principles are his eight disciplines for increasing your odds of success when starting a business:

1. Clarify Your Vision
2. Decide If You’re a “Partner Person”
3. The Bigger the Problem You Solve in the World, the More Successful You Will Be
4. Get Feedback from Customers and Clients Early and Often
5. Your First Plan Will Not Be Your Final Plan
6. Work Hard, Really Hard
7. Take Criticism and Doubt from Others With a Grain of Salt
8. See It Every Night: When your head hits the pillow, see your vision in vivid color and becoming true.
