So great to have you on with us.

Barry:

It is nice to be had by you, Tony.

Tony:

Barry, you are the Ambassador of JOY, and there's so much to talk about. We're going to talk about Stress Kills & Joy Heals, and in our current events that's happening right now, we need you. We need more you and we're going to talk a little bit about what you have to say. We're going to bring in the virus. We're going to talk about how to deal with it. But before we get into that, let's introduce you to the audience. Barry, let's find out -how did it all start for you? What's your backstory?

Barry:

Good day, beautiful bountiful, beloved immortal beings, and good-looking people out there. And remember, you're good looking because if you're listening to the Tony DUrso Show, it means you're always looking for and finding the good, because that's the essence of Tony DUrso and your Ambassador of JOY, Barry Shore. BARRY SHORE is here, the channel of goodness. That's my role in life, wonderful Tony. Very simple backstory. I am - thank God - chronologically 72 years of age. I am metabolically 48 years of age. Mentally, I'm 28 years of age, and my SOW is 8. Now, I hope that all of these hundreds of thousands of people listening, they're scratching their heads saying, okay, who the heck is this guy? What, he has 4 ages? Yes, everybody in the world has 4 ages at the same time - your chronological age, your biological age, your metabolic age, your mental acuity age and your SOW. What's an SOW? It's not a sow. It's not a pig. It stands for ... it's an acronym. It stands for Sense Of Wonder. My Sense Of Wonder in life is 8, because when you're an eight-year-old, you can still enjoy life to the full. So, in our world, we live with three fundamental aspects of life. Number one is life - everybody's life has a purpose. And when you know you have a purpose, the corollary, the result of that is you can go MAD. Now, MAD is another wonderful acronym. It stands for Make A Difference because when you know you have life as a purpose, then you can go MAD. Everybody can go make a difference. Whether you're Mother Theresa affecting the whole entire world, or you're just Tony DUrso or Barry Shore, you can make a difference. How can you make a difference? By unlocking the power and the secrets of everyday words and terms. What's a simple example? You ready for this one, Tony?

Tony:

Well, I love it. I want to follow your journey to success before we get into a little bit more of what you do, which is absolutely amazing. I'd love the audience to understand how did it all start for you?

Barry:

Okay. Well, I'm going to give you three major pieces. The first was the beginning. I was born December 2nd, 1948. Boston Massachusetts to two wonderful, amazing people, Francis and Bernard Shore, who are no longer physically with us, but they still influence me on a daily basis, especially my mother, we might get into a little bit later, we tell a story. A second major event in my life, which thank God is still going on 44 years later, was the meeting and marriage to an amazing being whose name is not Omi, who now goes by Naomi Shore. SHORE. We're married since 1977. Now we're in our 44th year of marital bliss. Now she may not agree, but I do. And we have a wonderful son whose name is Ezra, who's 32 years now and he's married to an amazingly delightful, delicious, wonderful woman. I've always wanted a daughter. We only had one child, one son. Her name is Shoshi - Shoshana - and thank God together they have two boys. I am a grandfather to two boys.

Tony:

Absolutely amazing. And by the way, I'm catching up on you. I've been with my wife going on 28 years.

Barry:

And by the way, and it marital bliss and Tony comes from a large family. I think you mentioned to me, you have five brothers and sisters, or seven.

Tony:

There's six boys of us total.

Barry:

Six boys! Imagine that, everybody! Talking about that in today's world is sort of mind expanding, but thank God they have two boys. One is going to be 3 in a couple of weeks and the other one is just a couple months old. So that's the other. The third thing is a major event in my life happened September 17th, 2004, which is now 15 and a half years ago. I was standing up in the morning, like I hope 99.99% of everybody listening, and in the evening, I was paralyzed from my neck down and it was not from an automobile accident or a spinal injury. It was a very rare disease. It happens to be called Guillain-Barré Syndrome, GBS for the cognizanti, also known as French polio. But imagine that! In the morning, hale and hearty, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and in the evening completely, totally paralyzed. I was in the hospital four and a half months. I was in a hospital bed in my own home for two years. I couldn't turn over by myself. Four years in a wheelchair. Braces on both my legs from my hips to my ankles. That was progress. Thank God, today I am able to be vertical and ambulatory, albeit with the help of a six and a half foot walking wand made for me by a Zen master, and so I'm really a tripad, but I still can't walk up a curb by myself or a stair, and I have help 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, but you hear my voice. It is positive, purposeful, powerful, and pleasant. And you know why? Because I'm ALIVE. It can't get better than that.

Tony:

Right through that, you ooze in life. And by the way, for the audience, I first met Barry Shore on stage quite some years ago, and I actually helped bring him on stage. I didn't know who he was. And I was just taken by this charismatic person, just so full of joy and happiness. That was actually how we met. We've been good friends ever since.

Barry:

Yes, because you are a good person to be a friend with. Matter of fact, that's a wonderful segue. I have dedicated myself over the past fifteen and a half years and even prior to that, I was already involved in that, in building on this situation which some people call catastrophic. It was, but it didn't lay me out other than it impeded my physical progress, but it didn't impede my psychological, spiritual or emotional progress in the ability to fulfill my purpose in life, which is to go MAD, go make a difference. And one of the ways we do that is by I have been able to codify and put into a concise and clear and compelling project called the 11 strategies for living in JOY daily, and these 11 strategies touch on all the essential aspects of what it means to live in joy daily. Barry, before we get into that, I'd like to know just ... we will get into your 11 strategies and I can't wait for that. I want to know how did you come about the vision for your current success? I understand that your illness, but this vision, you are so successful as the Ambassador of JOY. How did that come about? Well, thank you first of all for asking, and I can tell people it's really important. Tony DUrso has a great show. He brings remarkably positive, purposeful, powerful, pleasant people to bear, mostly in the business world. So, my basic background is as an entrepreneur. Thank God, very successful in a number of endeavors, and as an entrepreneur, of course has my share of stumbles, but suffice it to say over the past 25, 30 years, at least that I will recall now for everybody to recount, I've had two exits, multimillion dollar exits from companies that I began, one of which by the way, is still a functioning company with a $4 billion market cap and still services millions of people around the world, and I've been issued three patents. So, my abilities to have vision businesses and execute on the vision is really the key.

Tony:

This is the Tony DUrso Show where you could learn from the wisdom and success of others to help you move on your vision path. Just ahead, the chat continues about Stress Kills & Joy Heals with Barry Shore, but first it's time for us to take a short break. See you back here in just a moment.

Tony:

You already know me for my shows. It's always been about people and that's why I bring you some of the most well-known elite entrepreneurs in the world to share their stories, their wisdom, their guidance with you. I guess it's my Italian upbringing because people have always been more important to me than money, which I say all the time. When we help others, we get back far more riches than imagined. I guess that's why my show is number one on the Voice America Network. When I heard about this book, I felt this sense of relief because the title hit a strong chord with me. When I saw the trailer for the book, that chord rang loudly. I cheered inside. If 2020 has taught us anything, it's that the old ways of doing things aren't working. Believe in People by Charles Koch and Brian Hooks is a surprising take on how you can tackle America's biggest problems, independent of partisanship and division. It's not just the life lessons from one of America's greatest entrepreneurs. It's the story of a former gang leader turned peace broker in his community. The story of an amateur athlete who created one of the most innovative recovery programs in the country; the story of anyone willing to unite to do right and move society forward. In short, it's for anyone looking around the country right now and thinking 'there has to be a better way'. Pre-order the book today at believeinpeoplebook.com/tony and gain access to bonus content ahead of its November 17 publication. It's bottoms up solutions for a top-down world. You're listening to the Tony DUrso Show with special VIP guests. Now back to Tony and his guest.

Tony:

All right. We're back on the Tony DUrso Show where you can learn from the wisdom and success of others to help you move on your vision path. Today's show is Stress Kills & Joy Heals with Barry Shore. At the end of this interview, I'll give you a summary of what I got out of this, and I'll share some pointers with you. Stay tuned for that. Barry’s decision to use this experience to better his life and the lives of others has opened a unique opportunity to find JOY in living regardless of circumstance. All right, and now back to the chat with Barry.

Barry:

Everybody has ideas. It's a very fundamental and important aspect we're going to talk about now. Having ideas and bringing them to fruition and enabling them to affect both oneself and other people is really the key. Execution far more than having an idea is really what life is all about and therefore on my vision, and by the way, I want to urge everybody to ... on Tony's show, he has something called the Vision Map and it's available for you for free. It is imperative that you get it, watch it, use it because it will enable you to execute on your vision. So my vision is quite simple. I am the Ambassador of JOY and we want to use JOY to heal the great ills in people and in society, and we have four words that we work with. Those four words are very simple and very powerful. Those four words are Stress Kills, Joy Heals.

Tony:

We're going to get into that in just one moment, but one last question just to set the stage, cause we're all chomping at the bit. We want to know about Stress Kills and Joy Heals. What's your purpose? Why the Ambassador of JOY? Why are you doing this? What's the passion behind this, Barry?

Barry:

My WHY is very simple. I went from a fully functional, completely happy, wealthy, according to most people's definition. So I was healthy. I was wealthy. I was wise in the sense that I had family and friends, and in a matter of moments, became completely and totally paralyzed. I'll tell you one quick story, Tony. Goes exactly to the WHY. It's hard for people to even imagine being completely powerless. When I speak to groups, whether they're groups of 20 people or 10,000 that I did not long ago, and I speak to groups that are oftentimes 12-year-old kids in schools and oftentimes octogenarians. I urge everybody during my talk to do the same thing, and you can only do this for eight seconds. I say tonight, when you go to bed, lie down on your back, face up, hands by your side and for 8 seconds - no more than that, because if you do, you go crazy - eight seconds. Imagine that you cannot move anything on your body. Nothing! And you'll talk to your feet, talk to your legs, talk to your arms, talk to your chest. Nothing moves, and imagine being that way for years. So what is my WHY? My why came about because of this. I'm in the hospital, and I think during the third or fourth week of my hospital stay, I was in hospitals for over four and a half months, and I was being picked up from the bed, put on a gurney, brought to different places for tests and such like that. I had been working with this particular male nurse three or four days already, and on the way back, I remember exactly where it was. It was Saturday afternoon and it was in October because it was getting dark around 4:30, five o'clock or so. And he stops the gurney in the hallway and he bends down and whispers to me and said, Mr. Shore, can I ask you a personal question? Now, in addition to everything else, my voice was compromised. I could barely speak above a whisper and it wasn't easy. He asked me, can I ask you a personal question? He said, look, I'm a nurse. I see people in your situations regularly. This is the kind of ward I work in. I've never met anybody who's not bitter and angry. How come you're not bitter and angry? And I realized Tony at that moment, he was asking me the great existential question. God! Why me? Why did you do this to me? I wasn't asking that question. I was asking to myself, why me? I'm just a regular guy. What would you want me to do? What's my purpose? And within a few moments, wonderful Tony, I'm 55 years old at that point, a calm came over me that I had not known in 55 years on the planet. Complete calm, confidence that not will I get up and walk and run again and all that, no, but it was going to be fine. My purpose was to be able to channel into the world the joy that I felt even at that moment in the moment of complete paralysis. So that's why. That's who I am. The fact that now I can get out of bed, even though it takes me 10 minutes, I can get out of bed. It's amazing. That's my why.

Tony:

I love it. We're talking about Stress Kills and Joy Heals with Barry Shore, and you can find him at barryshore.com . I'm going to spell that. Barry is BARRY; Shore SHORE barryshore.com. Barry, let's get into your vision path and talk about what's happening today. Right now, we've got this epidemic happening. This mass hysteria, the Corona virus. It is creating a lot of stress. Businesses are closed. Schools are closed. Stores are closed. People are having issues with getting food. It's a lot of stress. And the title of this show apropos is Stress Kills and Joy Heals. So, what's going on and why now?

Barry:

So, imagine what's going on right now, Tony. People are going to be listening to the show, God willing, for years to come. The year began with people saying, yay, 20/20. Clear vision. It's growing, at least the United States and throughout the world. Stock market is up. Things are happening. It is a time of bounty and abundance and goodness, and people are feeling powerful, and now we are in the midst of a pandemic that has not been seen in the world for at least a century. And as you just mentioned, people are in lockdown mode. Now they're not just in lockdown mode because the government asks you to stay home. They're in lockdown mode mentally. Now, everybody who listens Tony DUrso show knows that the mind is the master, mind is the key. When your mind is in a lockdown mode, everything about you physically, spiritually, emotionally is going to be in that same mode. So, one of the beauties of what we work with, and I've been called at this time to bring this out the world is that yes, stress - stress is the hub of the wheel. Radiating out from stress are all the ills, at least in Western society that create discomfort, death. From stress comes out high blood pressure, heart issues, obesity, anxiety, skin ailments, diabetes, depression, insomnia, headaches, gastrointestinal problems. This is at the hub. This is the key. All the other things are manifestation. Now I love acronyms and that's what I thrive on. So, one of the acronyms that we created for stress is the following: STRESS stands for Stomach Turning Reality Enabling Self-Sabotage. That's what stress does. It literally takes your insides, closes you down and causes all of the ailments that you begin to think about. Now, why would anybody want to live that way? Well, you say I can't help it because look at all these things that I can name - pandemic and no money, my wife, my family. Okay. Stress can also stand for stomach turning reality. That's what it is, it's a pandemic. Barry Shore's completely paralyzed. Okay? That's the reality - Stomach Turning Reality Enabling Self-Soaring. When you can take any situation, Tony - any situation - and find the good, that's what a good-looking person is. So, when you understand that JOY is at the hub of the wheel and not STRESS, what happens? JOY supports your longevity; gives you purpose and makes you calm and aware. Stimulates your brain, healthier lifestyle. It boosts your immune system. It fights stress. It fights pain; you have better sex. Oh, hello everybody! Better sex. You open up the twin channels of giving and receiving. So, in this time of complete and utter panic in the world, the most important thing you can do is three. Ready? Number one: say to yourself this too shall pass. It's only temporary. It's so important. This too shall pass is a great biblical phrase, or it's only temporary. You literally must be in the mindset to use that. It's the mind that is the guide. Mind is the master. Number two is, as you mentioned, go to barryshore.com. The 11 strategies are available for free - FREE - free! That is my gift to the world. There's also a stress test, a free stress test, because what we've done is we correlated one which comes from Stanford University, COLOURS. So you can find out what color is your stress. And when you know your color, you can begin to work with it. And then you can use the 11 strategies to mitigate, reduce, maybe even eliminate stress in your life. So you can turn that stomach turning reality. And instead of self-sabotage, make it to be self-success. What a way to live!

Barry’s Keep Smiling Movement has distributed over two million Keep Smiling Cards free to all. And now back to the chat with Barry.

Barry:

Everything revolves around these six words. Are you ready, Tony? These six words become one of the most important you'll overhear in your life. Choice, not chance determines your destiny. Choice, not chance determines your destiny. How do you like that?

Tony:

So it's based on the decisions that we make that determine what we reap and what then comes as a result of those choices. So we should always choose wisely and make the best, most educated decisions, not emotional decisions, but logical decisions. So far so good?

Barry:

Yes, although I would urge you, I don't mind emotion, as long as like you said, it's logical and emotional. As an example, one of the 11 strategies for living in JOY daily is choice, not chance determines your destiny and the key of that is happy by choice. Life is a 3D process. These three Ds are Decision, Discipline and Determination. As a matter of fact, Tony DUrso, you are a D because you exemplify for me each one of these. Decision.... Everybody knows who Abraham Lincoln is, right? And we have a worldwide audience, but everybody knows Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln. When you look at his pictures of him, he is not what you would call your everyday happy guy, but Abraham Lincoln was a remarkably powerful, purposeful and pleasant fellow. He's quoted as saying people are about as happy as they decide to be. Decisions!

Tony:

So true, so true.

Barry:

Now, the Discipline is also quite important. Discipline is really essential to life, but here's something interesting. When people hear the word discipline, they tend to bristle a little bit because they think of discipline as narrowing and pushing. I prefer this wonderful quote and I'll try and mend from memory. True discipline isn't on your back, needling you with imperatives. It's at your side, nudging you with incentives. Hey, go and exercise a little more, walk a little bit more, and then go out and have a small ice cream, but it's discipline in the most positive way. Remember, life is built on the four Ps - positive, purposeful, powerful, pleasant. That's discipline, but determination. This is the key. This is the linchpin. This is the hinge that moves the big door. If you could get up the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed. Life is a 3D process. Happy by choice. It's one of the 11 strategies for living in JOY daily, and it's all free.

Tony:

Let's put a little bit of this into perspective. You've mentioned some of these points, which is very good, such as discipline and so forth. What do we focus on? How does this work, and do you have any people that went from very, very stressed to now, joy and happy and healed besides you?

Barry:

Absolutely. I can tell you that we have many hundreds and actually in the many thousands of people who've experienced Barry Shore's strategies and enabled them not only to save marriages, save lives. One of the most important of the strategies is called Keep Smiling. You hear it in my voice - Keep Smiling. Now SMILE itself is one of the great acronyms of life. If you remember this, if you remember nothing else about the show, you don't even remember Tony's name, you don't remember that guy Barry Shore, remember this. SMILE is one of the most important acronyms you'll ever learn. SMILE stands for - drumroll!! - fanfare!! - Seeing Miracles In Life Everyday.

Tony:

I love it.

Barry:

Invariably, when I'm speaking to groups again, whether it's 50 people or 5,000, people come up to me and say, but Mr. Shore, I've been up for hours already. I haven't seen any miracles. And I ask them, 'are you here? Can you hear? Can you see? You have water to drink? You have food to eat? You have a place to live? Do you have family? Do you have friends? Those are miracles.

Tony:

So many people take that for granted, but yes, they are all miracles.

Barry:

Think about it. Millions of people did not get out of bed this morning. A million plus people didn't get out of bed because they died. You didn't die. A million plus people didn't get a bed because they were infirm. Hello! Me! I couldn't get out of bed for years. The fact that I can get out of bed today, even though it takes me 10 minutes, who cares? A great thing happened. I got out of bed. I'm going to tell you a wonderful story. A couple of weeks ago, my 8-year-old niece comes over to me and says, Uncle Barry, can I spell smile SMIEL? I thought SMILE, SMIEL. Why not? I asked her why? She said because then it could stand for Seeing Miracles In Everyday Life.

Tony:

Oh, I liked that.

Barry:

Out of the mouth of babes - Seeing Miracles In Everyday Life. So, let me give you a story that touches me deeply. Her name is Heather and Heather was 22 at the time. Heather had decided that she didn't want to be here anymore. She lived in a small town in New England area and it was in the winter time, cold, rainy. It was a Monday morning and she had located a particular building. I think it was, she said it was 15, 18 stories high that had access to the roof. Somehow, they didn't lock the door and such. So, she decided this is her day. Monday morning. She's walking towards the building. And again, it's cold. It's dark out. I mean cloudy because New England in the winter, and drizzly and she has a hoodie on and she's looking down and she's walking along and she steps on a blue card. She says she didn't even know why, but she just stepped on the card. She could read some writing on it and she just stopped for a moment, looked, picked it up and it read, Keep Smiling.

Tony:

Oh, my goodness.

Barry:

She said, Oh, well, hello. How ironic is this? Yeah, keep smiling. Okay, on my way out I'll smile. And just at that moment Tony, somebody passed by on her right-hand side and said, good morning. Fraction of a second later on the left-hand side. Oh, hello. Good morning. And then another person walked by. Hi, good morning. She stopped. Again, it's raining, it’s cold. She made a decision. She has this card in her hand. People are passing by - oh, hello. Good morning. She's not looking up. And she says, she stood there, it felt like five minutes. It was probably 10 seconds. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't move forward; she didn't want to go back. She said, I crushed the card in my hand, put it inside my hoodie, turned around and went back to my home.

Tony:

What a story! Wow.

Barry:

That was eight years ago. She's still with us. She still struggles, but she's here. The power of a Keep Smiling card, and I can tell you, I'm sitting here. Thank God. Just almost 2 million cards reading Keep Smiling had been distributed throughout the world through the Barry Shore Group, through the Joy of Living Institute. Almost 2 million cards for free, available through barryshore.com. Just pay postage, and now you can even send them up by email completely free, and it's done by the way in 27 languages. That's the power of what we're doing when you begin to understand how to live in JOY daily.

Tony:

Absolutely amazing! Barry Shore, by the way, is the founder of the Keep Smiling Movement, and we've been recipient of a number of cards. My wife passed them out to friends and it just changes their life when you just hand this card, because you're not asking for someone. You're giving some advice, some wisdom to someone through this card because there are some very good quotes on that and it just can't help but perk up somebody, everybody. I highly recommend you get these cards and pass them out. They're totally free and it helps others. It's amazing. Well, you just summed up something, wonderful Tony. Thank you again. Thank you. Thank you, wonderful Tony, for enabling me to be on your show and speaking to hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world. I just want to mention, everybody. The JOY of Living can be summed up in one word. It's just what Tony said. One word - giving. Giving. That's why we're here. We're here to serve. We're here to give because that's the highest level of life in this world. Now one of the other great cards that we have and talk about stories and such, this is a card that has saved - I stopped counting - but the number of marriages and relationships are in the many thousands. The card reads on the front, and it's a nice picture of Hawaii, a Hawaiian beach so already it's nice. But the card reads, did I tell you today how much I appreciate you? And on the back of the card, you turn it over and it says to and from. People, men give this to their wives, put it on a pillow. Wives, give it to their husbands. Teachers give it to students. Students give to teachers; friends give to each other. This card has made such a difference that literally not just save marriages, but made things happen. Did I tell you today how much I appreciate you? Imagine saying that to somebody. Yes, words are absolutely fantastic. Matter of fact, one of the 11 strategies for living in JOY daily is your words matter. But when you can concretize them in a card, it stays there. My email, it must be about seven months ago from a woman who sent me an email. She said I just have to tell you. My husband gave me this card, did I tell you today how much I appreciate you a decade ago? She actually told me the exact date. So, it was 10 years, five months or something over a decade ago. I still keep it. I cherish it! You hear that? I cherish it.

Tony:

That is so cool.

Barry:

Yes, it makes a difference. I got to tell you a story about Aida though. May I tell you a story about Aida?

Tony:

I'd love to hear about it. Yes.

Barry:

Aida. First of all, if anybody doesn't know, it's one of the great operas of all time and Verdi was the composer and there's some great music. If you ever go on YouTube, you hear it, you'll recognize it right away. It's just world famous and stays in your memory. So Aida ... I have to back up. I have to interrupt myself while I am telling a story. Why? Because I have to tell you part of my therapy for being able to walk again, to move my limbs and such. I still can't as I said. I can't walk up the stairs by myself or a curb, and I can't get out of a chair just by myself unless it has arms on it and push, all kinds of stuff. But in the course of gaining back some mobility, I did a lot of what's called aquatic therapy. Put me in the pool and had people move my arms and legs for the first couple of years, and just trying to get some motion and suffice it to say over the course of a few years, I was actually able with floaties on my body and floaties on my legs so I won't sink and swimming aids, I was able to learn how to swim on my back first and I actually swim a mile on my back. Took me over 90 minutes, but I swim a mile. Imagine that! I was completely paralyzed. Now I swim a mile one day. I said, well, I like that. I started doing it twice a week, then three times a week, and over the course of another year or so, was able to actually turn on my tummy and with help of a snorkel and some paddles, I can now swim on my tummy and I can now swim, Tony D and I do swim two miles a day, six days a week and I've been doing that for more than 12 years. I write down every half mile and every mile and every two miles and three miles that I swim at a time, and I've accumulated more than 7,603 miles in the past 12 years. But put it in concrete terms, cause it's just a big number, imagine swimming from Los Angeles or Venice Beach where I live, swimming from Los Angeles to Hawaii and from Hawaii down to Fiji, and from Fiji down to Sydney, Australia.

Tony:

That's astounding! Hats off to you.

Barry:

Why did I tell you all that? Cause that's the backdrop for I swim. I swim outdoors, Santa Monica. I have a great tan and it's actually a nice swim in a particular place that's really an amazing aquatic center. This particular lane has a special chair that enables me to get in and out of the water, and in that particular lane with me is this amazing woman named Aida.

Barry's radio show/podcast, The JOY of Living is heard worldwide with 100 thousand downloads per month. And now back to the chat with Barry.

Barry:

Aida gets in and out of the water in this chair also. Aida is chronologically 107 years young. May I say that again to everybody? She's 107 years young. Now why do I say it? Oh, cause Barry Shore's crazy. Doesn't like to say 107 years old. No, because he does, but three reasons why. Aida, first of all, I got to sing to her. October 5th of last year was her birthday. I sang to her in the pool a special birthday song that I composed for her, for Aida in the pool, and unbeknownst to me, I'm singing you the top of my lungs. I have a big voice as you hear. It must've been about 20, 25 people all listening and then applauding at the end. Yay. We actually have it on video and it went viral and thousands of people saw it. They loved it. So Aida is a big fan of the 11 strategies for living in JOY daily. Now she didn't realize it because she didn't go to the computer and look it up. But when I first met Aida was about 12 years ago, so she was what? 95? I think that's a fairly advanced age, wouldn't you say Tony? 95. So she was a great person, but I met her and she wasn't ebullient like she is today and I asked her, how come? She said, well, I'm old and she didn't say it grouchy like, but I'm old. So, okay. I didn't bother her much, but I just mentioned over the course of a few weeks and it turned into months, just some of the strategies. Just a little bit here and there and her demeanor changed. Her life got better. She lived longer. She told me this. She says, you know why I'm alive? She said, because you sing to me, because you make me feel good. I love you. When I see her - you have got understand something, she's 107. I mean, she's in great shape. I have some videos and such. Just amazing. Now she doesn't walk; she's in the wheelchair, but when I get in the pool, she can't see more than about 18 inches. You have to get really close. But when I get close enough, she lights up. Hi, Barry. You got to understand something, 107. I forget my name sometimes, Tony. She doesn't. She says, hi Barry, sing me a song. So, I sing a song. Fairy tales can come true. It can happen to you. And then she chimes in... if you're young at heart.

Tony:

I love it.

Barry:

Think about it. That's the power of these 11 strategies. That's the power of living in JOY daily.

Tony:

Barry, this is great and I appreciate you regaling us with this. This is just so much. I just love it, and the world really needs this. I'm curious - what are you looking to accomplish in the next few years? Where are you going with all this?

Barry:

Where I'm going with this is almost simple. We want one ... just like we have our goal. Our goal is 10 million Keep Smiling cards distributed. I want 1 million people to access, take the stress test. What color is your stress? And then access again for free, the 11 strategies for living in JOY daily because when you do, we have a million people doing this, it will make a difference in the world. Everybody will be going MAD and they'll tell their friends and the neighbors, because we have one, you'll have 10. You have 10, you'll have a hundred. You have a hundred, you'll have a thousand. Thousand will turn to a million. A million times a thousand is only a 1 billion. So 1 million people influencing their friends and neighbors, we will bring JOY and abundance, and people will be good-looking cause they're always be looking for and finding the good

Tony:

We really need that, and I'm definitely going to help on that task and that goal. Absolutely. And on your vision success, are there any personal habits that contribute to your vision success?

Barry:

Yes. Thank you for asking - three. One is exercise. For me personally, because I was a quad. It is vital for my mental and physical and emotional wellbeing to be in the water. Walking is not easy, but in the water, I'm a different being. I can visualize me moving. Again, I swim two miles without stopping, a hundred minutes. I can swim my mile Tony in 50 minutes. I swim two miles a day, six days a week without stopping. Okay. That's number one - not number one - but that's one. Number two or another one is eating well. I have seven words that I apply for eating well ready? Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. That's it. And I am -thank God - 148. That's my weight when I was in high school.

Tony:

Wow.

Barry:

Yes. And I am fit. Not only do I weigh, I'm almost six foot and I'm tan, handsome and debonair, or debonair as they say. Suave and debonair! And number three, I love singing and dancing. Others call it prayer. I call it singing and dancing. I speak to the good Lord. I speak to God. I didn't say he or she listens. I think he or she does. And I speak to God. I call it singing and dancing because that's what I do. Others call it prayer. So, exercise, food and singing and dancing to the Lord and celebration of life.

Tony:

I totally believe that when people talk to God that he listens. Absolutely, especially if people do it in earnest and do it with compassion and do it because they want to do it, not because it's something real. People that just read something wrote; I don't believe go very far. But when you really want to speak with God and you really put yourself there and you really reach out to Him, he does listen. There's absolutely no question about it.

Barry:

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And Barry, we've talked about a couple of good resources here. The 11 strategies. Are there any other great resources that you'd like to share with our audience success squad?

Barry:

I urge everybody to do the following. There are two words that I believe will change you fundamentally and therefore change the world, and those two words are .... drumroll.... fanfare.... thank you, thank you, thank you. If you consciously and conscientiously say thank you three times a day for now and the rest of your life, every single day, consciously, conscientiously. Thank you. Why? THANK is a remarkable acronym. It stands for To Harmonize And Network Kindness, to harmonize and network kindness. The Dalai Lama has been quoted as saying I've written his writings, be kind whenever possible, and it's always possible. You go to the coffee shop, you order your fancy latte, Tony for $5.25. They bring it to you. You say, thank you. You order your fancy latte for $5.25 and you wait a couple minutes. Doesn't come. You go up to the counter. Oh, we forgot. And now they make and bring it to you, but the same nice tone. Thank you. Walking out of the coffee shop, somebody holds the door open. Thank you. Walk out of the coffee shop. Somebody slams the door in your face. You say, thank you. You're in traffic. You need to get to someplace. Somebody cuts you off on the freeway. Thank you. You get up in the middle of the night, you stuck your toe and it hurts. You say, thank you.

Tony:

I love it. You've just showed us how Stress Kills and Joy Heals and you've given us so much information. Barry, I want to thank you for coming on the Tony DUrso Show and just regaling us with this. This is powerful. It's infectious and it's delightful.

Barry:

It's delightful, it's delicious, it's wonderful. Tony D, can I give you a big hug in front of hundreds of thousands of people? Are you ready?

Tony:

Okay. Go ahead.

Barry:

One, two, three.

Tony:

Thank you. That feels good. And you can find him at barryshore.com. Once again, Stress Kills and Joy Heals with Barry Shore. Get those 11 strategies. Get those cards that say, Keep Smiling, Make A Difference. Go MAD. Change someone's life. Change someone's life forever. Barry, thank you once again. This was absolutely great. I love it.

Barry:

Thank you, wonderful Tony and everybody listening best wishes. Make it a great one.

Tony:

Hey, fellow entrepreneurs. Thanks for hanging out with me while I featured an elite entrepreneur who took his vision to reality. I'm sure this was as inspiring for you as it was for me to do this interview. Stress Kills and Joy Heals with Barry Shore. Barry begins our interview full of life and joy, which is both refreshing and astounding, especially when you hear a story very briefly stated about his sudden paralysis, which he gallantly and successfully fought over the years. He's the Ambassador of JOY and give some deep-rooted views and understandings of life. This will surely change your mood right out of the gate. He says having ideas and bringing them to fruition is really the key. This boils down to execution. You're sitting out there or driving, hiking, working in your garage. Maybe you're working out and you're listening to this now. You may have your own business. You may be working a job, but you have ideas and probably many of them at that on how to get your own business or move up a notch if you only had the chance. And here you go. On just this note alone so far, it's all about getting things done and keeping at it, no matter what. The only difference between your idea or your business and millionaires is that they persevere to get their ideas executed. That's kind of the bottom line on that. Do you see? Barry has accomplished so much, regardless of being paralyzed or not and he's beating that too. Since then, he's gone on to create the Barry Shore Show also on Voice America, which has 2 million downloads and going strong. He put together classes and training and so much that it really is amazing. He's accomplished far more than what I've seen with the average person, and he continues regardless of his condition. He really keeps on going. He can get out of bed on his own, and even though it may take him 10 minutes to do so, he is so happy that he can do it. He considers it a blessing. Instead of blaming God, which we hear people do, Barry didn't go that way. He took ownership and grew in gratitude and everything that was good. Think about that for a moment. Listen to this again. Here is a guy who was completely paralyzed and he was not bitter or angry. He just dealt with it and he beat it. Can you imagine that? And this is how he is in business. He perseveres, follows through, and become successful, no matter what. Can you apply that to your business, to your career, to your life? There's so much more I got out of this interview. What did you get? I'd love to know how you use this information to help you in your business or career. All right, guys, now grab hold of your vision. Decide you're either going to start something great or take it to the next level. You have to decide first. It always starts with a decision and you can get my Vision Map to help you along the process. The eBook is at tonydurso.com/books. I created my empire in just a few years. That's all it took. I had the Vision Map as my guide. You can do it too. Let's help you move on your journey to success. And once again, please consider supporting the show with a nice review. Just go to ratethispodcast.com/tony. Thanks, and remember: just take action. Success awaits those who persevere and remain steadfast despite the odds. Sow good seeds, do good deeds and join me on the next episode of the Tony DUrso Show.
