The Real Advantage

"Discipline is the bridge between your aspiration and your goal." Most entrepreneurs don't fail for lack of talent. More often, they lose momentum because they abandon consistency. Every business owner eventually encounters uncertainty. Markets shift. Technology evolves. Artificial intelligence reshapes industries. Competition never stands still. The temptation is to react to every new challenge instead of focusing on the work that actually moves the business forward. I recently spoke with executive leadership advisor Randall Thames about one of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face: staying consistent when motivation fades. You can hear our full conversation at The Tony Durso Show. Rather than relying on motivation, Thames believes leaders should build something much more dependable: a process. He calls it "Process as Armor." Instead of allowing emotions, criticism, or unexpected setbacks to dictate decisions, a well-designed process becomes a form of protection. It keeps leaders moving forward after enthusiasm fades and circumstances become unpredictable. That philosophy wasn't developed in a classroom. It began when eight-year-old Thames wasn't chosen for his baseball team. Feeling "less than ordinary," he made a decision that would shape the rest of his life. Instead of focusing on what he lacked, he developed the one ability he already possessed—his speed. That commitment to disciplined improvement eventually transformed him from an overlooked child into an all-star athlete and later became the foundation of his leadership philosophy. "Your process becomes your armor. It protects you from your feelings, your emotions, and outside criticism." Today, after decades of advising CEOs [...]

Truth Builds Trust

"People don't make decisions logically. The majority of the time they're emotional." – Joel Bauer Every entrepreneur has experienced it. You know your product can solve a problem. You explain it clearly. You answer every question. Yet the opportunity slips away. So why does that happen? I recently spoke with communication strategist Joel Bauer about that very challenge on The Tony DUrso Show. Bauer has spent more than four decades helping entrepreneurs, executives, and Fortune 500 companies communicate more effectively. Yet his central message isn't about becoming more persuasive. It's about becoming more authentic. "We've got enough theorists out there," Bauer told me. "I want to hear about your truth." That philosophy runs through everything he teaches. People don't just evaluate facts. They evaluate people. Long before they compare features or prices, they're deciding whether they trust the person in front of them and whether the conversation feels real or rehearsed. Artificial intelligence can generate content in seconds. Social media floods us with opinions, and businesses compete for attention like never before. Yet Bauer believes one thing hasn't changed: people still decide whom they trust before deciding what they'll buy; genuine relationships still matter. One insight from our conversation especially stood out to me. He explained that many entrepreneurs spend too much time crafting polished stories instead of sharing real experiences. "Tell the truth," he said. "That way you have nothing to memorize." He encourages leaders to draw from their own history—the lessons they've actually lived—rather than presenting carefully [...]

A Song Told From God’s Perspective

Some songs tell a personal story. Others tell someone else's. "Air To Breathe" takes a different approach altogether. The song is written from the perspective of God speaking to humanity across generations, watching people experience joy and sorrow, gratitude and rebellion, faith and disappointment while continually providing the very things that sustain life. Rather than focusing on what people hope to receive, the song asks listeners to consider what has already been given. Air to breathe. Food and water. Comfort in times of sorrow. Hope when circumstances seem uncertain. Throughout the lyrics, God patiently observes mankind's endless pursuit of more. Again and again, the same refrain returns: "You're always demanding more. Never being satisfied." Yet despite humanity's tendency toward greed, discontentment, and misplaced priorities, His response never changes. "Yes, I shall comfort you." That contrast becomes the emotional center of the song. Instead of condemnation, there is compassion. Instead of rejection, there is patience. Instead of giving people what they continually ask for, God reminds them of the gifts they already possess every single day. One of the song's most challenging questions comes near the end: "Can you be glad at what I give? Do your idols really keep you alive?" The question reaches beyond possessions or success. It asks whether peace is found in what people pursue—or in recognizing the One who has already provided life itself. Musically, "Air To Breathe" continues the reflective style found throughout much of the TRUST project. Rather than relying on dramatic orchestration [...]

The Trust Advantage

“People trust people more than brands.” Every entrepreneur is competing for the same thing. Artificial intelligence is generating endless content. Advertising costs continue to climb. Consumers are overwhelmed with messages, making it harder than ever to earn attention. The challenge isn't creating more content. It's earning trust. I recently spoke with influencer marketing strategist Yuliya Gorenko about this challenge. You can hear our full conversation at The Tony Durso Show. Many business leaders still misunderstand influencer marketing because they still see it as a trendy experiment. Yuliya sees it as the digital evolution of something that's always existed. Long before social media, communities trusted respected voices. Friends recommended businesses. Industry experts shaped opinions. Technology didn't invent influence—it amplified it. "Word of mouth is the most trusted channel." She explained that technology hasn't changed that principle. Instead, it has expanded it. Today, trusted recommendations can reach thousands—or even millions—of people while maintaining much of the same credibility. That's why respected experts, podcast hosts, and creators often influence buying decisions more effectively than another polished advertisement. That insight also explains why so many companies become disappointed with influencer marketing. Some expect one campaign to generate immediate sales. Others judge success by a coupon code or a short-term spike in revenue. Yuliya encourages businesses to think differently. Like every other marketing channel, trust compounds over time. The strongest brands don't build credibility with a single promotion—they earn it through consistent value and authentic relationships. She challenged another common misconception. Many executives assume [...]

The Real AI Advantage

"AI isn't the advantage. Knowing how to use it is." Artificial intelligence is everywhere. Every week brings another announcement, another platform, or another promise that AI will transform the way we work. Yet after speaking with marketing strategist Christy O'Connor on The Tony Durso Show, one conclusion became clear: Success won't come from using more AI. It will come from using it wisely. O'Connor has spent more than 26 years in marketing, beginning during the early dot-com era. She believes today's AI revolution resembles the early internet days, when some businesses rushed to build websites while others quietly built systems that generated customers for years. "We're experiencing the same thing right now with AI," O'Connor said. "Many people think it's a novelty. The real value is knowing where to plug it into your business." That's where AI becomes a business advantage. She emphasized that AI works best when it helps people make better decisions, automate repetitive tasks, and remove bottlenecks. It should increase efficiency, not replace relationships. O'Connor compared AI to the computerized diagnostic tools modern mechanics use. Those tools don't replace experienced technicians; they simply help identify problems faster. The mechanic still brings judgment, expertise, and common sense to the repair. The same principle applies to every business. The smartest companies don't expect AI to think for them. They ask it to eliminate repetitive work, surface better information, and help people make faster, more informed decisions. The lesson is clear: When a diagnostic tool identifies a problem, an [...]

The Wealth Risks You Don’t See

“The biggest threats to your wealth are often the ones you never see coming.” At first glance, that statement sounds like a warning about the stock market. It isn't. Most people assume wealth disappears because of bad investments, economic downturns, or failed businesses. Those things certainly happen. But some of the most costly financial mistakes begin much more quietly. A document that was never updated. A beneficiary designation that no longer reflects reality. A long-term care need that no one planned for. A legal exposure that seemed impossible until it wasn't. During a recent conversation on The Tony DUrso Show , wealth and estate-planning attorney Ann-Margaret Carrozza explained why many people unknowingly leave themselves exposed to risks that can take years to develop and only moments to become expensive. One of the most interesting observations from the discussion was how often people mistake activity for protection. We work hard. We build businesses. We buy homes. We invest. We save. And over time, we begin to assume that because we've accumulated assets, we've also protected them. Those are not the same thing. Carrozza knows this subject from both professional and personal experience. Her journey began far from the world of wealth planning. She has spoken openly about growing up on public assistance before eventually becoming an attorney, New York State legislator, bestselling author, and trusted advisor to more than 20,000 clients. One analogy from the conversation stood out. Many people focus on putting more money into the piggy bank without [...]
